The Small Giants

A partnership between my son-in-law Stuart (pictured here) and his friend Rod, has created a new band called  The Small Giants. They’re just starting out, playing pubs and other venues to sharpen their skills and are doing well. Enjoy their music!

The picture below was taken using an old manual 500mm catadioptric lens (mirror lens).

I used this particular lens in order to compress the background and to try and re-create that retro look from the 60’s and 70’s.  Manually focusing with this lens is hard enough on a static subject but on a moving one, almost insanely difficult. So I’m pleased with how it has turned out. It’s only a pity that the cars are so modern… oh, what I’d have given for some big American classics to be cruising in the background!

Incidentally, the amount of verbal ‘banter’ that came our way from passing cars while shooting this was surprising. But I guess not that surprising these days.
